Beware, spoilers below!

Seeing “Deadpool 2” proved to be a wild ride, taking me through several emotions very quickly. The movie, as entertaining as it was humorous, included big cameos, the very first LGBT superhero relationship and a satirical parody of the X-Men.

We all know Marvel’s beloved mercenary, the eponymous Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds), or Wade Wilson, always provides witty split-second humor and funny cutscenes, but we would not expect it to be emotional. After Wilson’s girlfriend, Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), experiences a gruesome end right in Wade’s arms, Wade experiences a large depressive episode. They were going to be trying for kids, claiming kids could make you better than you are. Wade, obviously, experiences a fit of grief, and puts himself in the middle of an explosion.

Colossus (Stefan Kapičić) finds him and brings him back to the X-Men’s house, where he reunites with Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) and her newly introduced superhero girlfriend, Yukio (Shiori Kutsuna.) They go to rescue a mutant kid, but upon realizing he was abused, Deadpool kills one of the men who abused him. Colossus claims he is done with Wade disappointing him, and lets him and Russell (Julian Dennison), the kid, go to mutant jail.

In there, a time traveler with a robot arm, Cable (Josh Brolin,) tries to kill Russell. Wade finds out in the future, if all goes the way it is planned, Russell kills Cable’s family. They escape, Russell gets captured, and Wade, remembering what Vanessa said about kids making you better, forms the X-Force (a gender neutral X-Men team) and rescues him. Colossus, Negasonic, and Yukio come at the last moment and help Wade and Domino (Zazie Beetz,) the last surviving member of the X-Force. Unfortunately, at the last moment, being a hero, Wade puts on a necklace that takes his powers-including healing- away and takes a bullet for the kids. He takes a long time to die, making funny comments, successfully making me cry for the second time in the movie. Of course, Cable, who is able to time travel, saves the day and brings Wade back to life. Just as he seems to be entering Heaven with Vanessa, kissing her before he has to leave. In the after-credits, he has Yukio and Negasonic fix up the time travel device, brings Vanessa back to life, and switches to some other timelines to fix stuff up, even killing another Deadpool.

All of the actors and actresses did incredibly well, especially the star, Ryan Reynolds. He showcased so many different emotions at different times, and kept a straight face during the most funny parts, and delivered one-liners in ways that made you double over with laughter.

The overall message of the movie and the general theme is really sweet actually, showing love and acceptance and family. The lesbian couple is the first ever gay superhero couple and it was not used as a joke or a plot point and it was not to make a statement.

Overall, this movie is not for the faint-hearted, the young or too old. I feel like teenager-mid 50s is a good age range. You have to be able to understand and appreciate the jokes, but also the severed limbs and the loud, flashy fight scenes. It is an amazing movie and shows that family is more than just an f-word, or connected through blood.
