Olson amazes others with unique sports skills

Reading through the paper, the same sports and athletes seem to be covered yet there are many athletes with unique talents that are overlooked. They are often underrated and do not get enough appreciation. They are not stereotypical, they do not want to become a societal robot. These students have hopped off the train of social norms and into reality.

Sophomore Caden Olson spends his days snowboarding in the winter and skateboarding in the summer. Olson began snowboarding when he was in first grade. His first year out on the slopes did not go so well for him because he broke his left leg. He began skating a couple of years later.

“I prefer snowboarding because it is a different kind of feeling while riding. When you are in the air, it is one of those feelings that you wish would last much longer. The type of moment where you wanna slow down time and capture the experience to keep forever,” said Olson.

Olson works hard and puts a lot of time and energy into practicing. For him, it just depends on what sets his mood and if he is ready. Olson rides almost every day, whenever he gets the chance. The winter season is pretty short therefore, any day Olson is free, he is out on the slopes. For the most part, Olson rode at Great Bear. He also went to Bear Mountain in California, Keystone, Woodward in Colorado, Trollhaugen in Wisconsin and several different places in Minnesota.

Olson is not appreciated for his achievements because he is not in mainstream high school sports. What Olson does sets him apart from any other student.

“What I think sets Caden apart from other students is perseverance and when you see him skate or snowboard, you can really see him trying to fine tune what he is doing and make it perfect,” said senior Rory Crain.
