Update (12:17 CST): Pipe bombs and pressure cookers were found at the scene. Ten people have been killed, nine students and one teacher, with several other injured.

A gunman opened fire at Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe, TX this morning between 7:30 and 7:45. There have been at least 10 deaths reported by CNN and ABC.

The school district issued the following statement: “This morning an incident occurred at the high school involving an active shooter. The situation is active, but has been contained. There have been confirmed injuries. Details will be released as we receive updated information. Law enforcement will continue to secure the building and initiate all emergency management protocols to release and move students to another location. All other campuses are operating under their regular schedules. At this time, students from the high school are being transported by SFISD transportation to the Alamo Gym located at 13306 Highway 6. Parents may reunite with their students at this location.
The district will continue to keep you updated as information is available. Safety and communication are our top priorities.”

A suspect has been arrested and is in custody, according to assistant principal Cris Richardson.

Students reported hearing an alarm and exiting the school, assuming that they were participating in a fire drill. One student told Houston television station KTRK that the gunman entered her first-period art class and began shooting. The student also said that she saw one girl with blood on her leg as they evacuated the classroom.

“We were all standing (outside), but not even five minutes later, we started hearing gunshots,” said Angelica Martinez in an interview with CNN. “And then everybody starts running, but like the teachers are telling us to stay put, but we’re all just running away.”

Aerial footage from the scene showed three life-flight helicopters landing at the school.

The entire school district is currently in lockdown, with more information to be released later today.
