How Ben makes bank

In the fall of 2017, a young entrepreneur was born. Now, he is a successful buyer and reseller of the famed Supreme clothing brand.
LHS junior Ben Snyder is a classic example of a “hypebeast.” He is always seen in the latest and hottest brands, even some that most people are not aware of. He is able to purchase the Gucci, Saint Laurent and Off-White merch he frequently wears through this business venture.
“Every week Supreme drops new stuff on their website. On Tuesday or Wednesday, a drop list is put out and special Twitter and Instagram accounts explain what is going to be valuable. On Thursday at 10 a.m., the stuff drops, and I use a bot that automatically puts in my information, the stuff in my cart that I want, and buys it,” said Snyder.
Using computer bots in the process of buying merchandise from Supreme has become almost necessary to obtain the most valuable items from the site. Some popular items sell out in under 13 seconds after the drop. But to Snyder, the hassle is worth it.
“I like it because of the money and it’s really fun. It gives you an adrenaline rush right before the drop because you never know if you’ll get the stuff. Two weeks after I first started, I sold a box logo sweatshirt for $1000 which was what got me hooked,” said Snyder.
The brand Supreme is unique because of the re-sell value. Depending on the time they are re-sold, a single item can be marked up significantly.
“The most I’ve ever marked something is 15 times what I bought it for. But some things can be resold for 20 times what I bought it for. Normally the stuff that starts out at a lower price can be marked up more,” said Snyder.
Being in this business has had some major effects on Snyder’s life. He has convinced his parents that this qualifies as a job so they have not made him get one. It also allows him to have some extra spending money. Although this may seem like a quick way to make a few bucks, Snyder recommends not joining the business.
“Don’t start, I don’t want more people in it,” said Snyder “The more bots people use the more Supreme cracks down on it.”
