An overview of a new CreW
October 18, 2019
Creative writing is a sector of English classes that many dread. The thought of creating a world and characters from scratch has terrified hundreds of LHS students since the school’s opening. But however difficult the task of writing may be, the members of LHS’ newest club embrace it.
Created by junior Troian Loken, senior Tobi Lionsdale and sophomore Jada Terpening, the Creative Writing Club, affectionately called CreW by its members, hopes to improve its participant’s writing through multiple different activities
“Initially, it was just me who was leading it, but two of my friends expressed immense interest in this little project and helped out a lot with figuring out exactly what I want to do in CreW,” said Loken. “We talked about all the resources we would want to have a better time writing: someone to bounce ideas off of, a plethora of writing prompts and a time and place for writing.”
The club is for all students who wish to improve their writing, whether for leisure or a school assignment.
“The club is for writers by writers, and I believe everyone is a writer,” said Loken. “Everyone writes, but I hope CreW will help people become more confident in their writing and help people share their pieces.”
The Creative Writing Club members have many ideas of what might happen in a typical meeting.
“The majority of the meetings will be workshops, with us providing an optional prompt each week: talking out plots, idea bunnies, worldbuilding, etc.,” said Loken.
However, not every Creative Writing Club meeting will be the same; Loken has plans to have occasional story-time meetings.
“I am hoping to have story-time on Halloween, and I am planning to give CreW members a spooky prompt this week. For some incentive, I may bring snacks for story-time,” said Loken.
Anyone looking to better their writing can check out the Creative Writing club meeting on Thursdays in room A405.
