Everyone is affected by the corona virus pandemic, but seniors are being effected in a major way.

Senior year: A year to make your final memories as a high schooler and then send off to college. For some, senior year is one of the most memorable years of their lives. For this year’s seniors, that will most definitely be true. However, while they will be sure to remember their senior year, it will most likely not be a good memory. Over the past few weeks, students across the country have heard the less than stellar news about the rest of the school year. Due to the Coronavirus, many events that students look forward to all year have been canceled.  Spinsters and Prom are some of the top events of the year and both occur in the spring. The class of 2020 will never be able to experience those events again. Seniors already had some of their ‘lasts’ this year and it is even worse that they are getting some of their favorite last activities ripped away from them.

Sports seasons are canceled, they can’t hang out with their friends and they potentially may not be able to walk across the stage and receive their diploma. For students that are not going to college for sports, their season being canceled is painful because there is a chance they will never play that sport again. They could have played that sport for years and yet when they thought they were going to have one last season, they didn’t.

Many seniors want to be more social because soon after high school is over, most of them will be going to a magical place called college.  More than likely, most of their friends from high school will not follow them there. This means that they want to hang out as much as they can with their high school friends before it is too late.  I’m not saying it’s the wrong call for people to be social distancing, but it is just sad to think that the seniors can’t even hang out with their friends during their final months at home.

As seniors are now sitting in their homes, they are remembering all of the memories that the school had brought to them and all of the memories that they are going to miss out on. People who graduate high school get a chance to say goodbye to their schools one last time, but the class of 2020 probably won’t have that and they didn’t even know it. I’m sorry seniors for how your final year has ended up. It’s not fair or right, but there is nothing that you can do and I am sorry for that. FaceTime your friends and remember all the good memories that you had in high school. Now non-seniors, take this time to think about your future high school years. Don’t take any high school moments for granted because you never know when it is going to end.
