“Detroit 2”
September 16, 2020
Big Sean’s highly anticipated album “Detroit 2” fell short of excellent with its lackluster ad libs and inability to create his own hit song , but the features put into this album might make it worth a listen.
On Sept. 4, 2020, Big Sean released his new album named “Detroit 2.” This most recent album definitely could have been better. With that being said, this album is decent but with some changes to the songs it could have been one of Big Sean’s statement albums. Personally, this album to me is not anything special and he has come out with much better albums in the past. Many parts of the album sound like they could be something special. After listening to the album it is never when Big Sean’s singing. The special moments are from the features such as Post Malone, Lil Wayne and Traivs Scott.
The more this album plays, the more listeners hear the many weird ad libs that are included. These ad libs often sound forced, and do not need to be a part of the song. The lyrics seem to flow very nicely, however, by Big Sean adding these unusual ad libs, it just throws off the songs.
This album has a select few songs that stick out, including “Respect It” featuring Young Thug, “Lithuania” featuring Travis Scott and finally the best song of the album “Wolves” featuring Post Malone. “Wolves” is the best song on this album, no questions asked. Something about Big Sean and Post Malone collaborating together really stands out, as they are two of the biggest names in the rap industry and appeal to a bigger fan base.
Overall, I would give this album a 6/10, “Detroit 2” is not a terrible album, however it could have been so much better. This is not one of those albums I would go listen to on repeat, but there are definitely a few songs that listeners should be adding to their playlist. I have personally never been a big fan of Big Sean, and this album has not really changed that. Some of his songs are very good but others just do not seem to flow how they should. With that being said, fans would’ve liked to have seen more from this very talented rapper.
