“Top”
September 28, 2020
Youngboy Never Broke Again’s third album of the year does not disappoint. He relates his album to his life well and makes this album an unmatchable comparison to his other two this year.
Youngboy Never Broke Again’s album “Top” was released on Sept. 11, 2020. Youngboy writes about what it means to survive in Baton Rouge’s urban neighborhoods. These lyrics help create a personal connection with him, also throughout this album Youngboy explains how much better his living conditions are compared to what he was living in before. Adding this into his album really shows inspiration and provides listeners with a stronger connection to Youngboy. Talking about his experiences and what he went through shows that anyone can do anything if they put their mind to it. I believe that this makes every song better, when people can really relate to music, that is when they enjoy it more. This album adds another dimension to what Youngboy can do as a writer and singer because of the way he talks about his life. Some of the top songs are “My Window” featuring Lil Wayne, “Callin” featuring Snoop Dogg and “To My Lowest.”
“My Window” featuring Lil Wayne is this album’s highest point. Youngboy makes it known how paranoid he is due to his living conditions. Lil Wayne shows up in small parts but proves powerful at the same time. These two rappers just seem to flow very well together; it might have something to do with their chemistry and the Louisiana background they both share.
“Callin” featuring Snoop Dogg is also a very good track released in this album. Youngboy’s new age, west coast vibes flow perfectly with Snoop Dogg’s relaxed flow. The lyrics in this song are absolutely insane and Youngboy really shows what he is capable of when it comes to writing music.
“To My Lowest” is also one of the top songs in this album. This song is about a breakup and self-awareness. This track speaks about what it is like to lose someone you love and displays the struggles of moving on.
Overall, I would give this album an 8.5/10, the way Youngboy relates his life to his lyrics just makes me like it way more. I feel that a lot of people like songs more when they can relate to them or connect with them and that is exactly what “Top” did. This is a great album and is highly recommended to anyone who is a fan of Youngboy.
