Daly’s daily life
February 17, 2022
You may know him as a teacher, some know him as a coach, a dad or even a husband. Matt Daly, LHS teacher and girls’ head basketball coach, has four different lives which all require different needs.
Daly teaches Psychology along with World History and coaches varsity girls basketball. In Daly’s room, one can easily see his love for basketball with a whole wall dedicated to it. It can be hard balancing his school life. Whether it is planning for his classes, prepping before a big game or going home taking care of not only himself, but his family as well.
“The only way to tackle all my priorities is to work really hard and to take pride in being really organized. I try to organize my life into three categories, to make sure I stay on top of everything. (1) Family responsibilities, (2) Teaching responsibilities and (3) Coaching responsibilities,” said Daly.
Although Daly may have a lot of responsibilities in his life, he makes the most of it. His alone time is very important to him but he also loves spending time with his family when he gets the chance. Some of his favorite hobbies consist of watching his comfort movies or shows. A couple of his top shows are “Entourage,” “Sopranos,” “Mandalorian” and “Book of Boba Fett.”
“I have learned that once you become a Dad, there isn’t much alone time. Whatever time I have leftover during the day or week I try to spend with my wife Cyrsta, son Michael and my dog Riley,” said Daly. “Between work and coaching basketball, I always feel like I have something to do or that I need to work and get ahead to clear open more time to spend with my family. So, I probably don’t sit down and relax and take as much alone time as I should.”
Daly likes to follow a strict schedule to make sure that nothing gets out of the routine that could possibly interfere with his everyday life. He starts his day early at a whopping 5 a.m. and ends it at around 12 a.m. During his busy day, he has many tasks to accomplish. He takes pride in taking care of his son in the morning and at night, planning out his week for school and basketball, also taking care of his labrador by taking him out every night on a walk. The school day ends around 10:30 p.m. for Daly after putting in the last grades from assignments and tests, leaving him with his last hour and half of the night to relax and put on one of his favorite shows.
