The bi-annual, renowned event of the fashion industry has made its usual February appearance in New York. The first New York Fashion Week of 2022 was an unforgettable, action-packed affair and surely kicked off the year with style.

Used to catapult designers’ fall collections for that calendar year, February fashion week is a staple event in the high-end world. Although fashion weeks take place everywhere around the world, there are five main capitals: Paris, London, Milan, New York and Arab. These cities hold acclaimed shows twice a year during both September and February. NYFW itself has taken place since 1943, aiming to preview clothing collections to buyers and the general public with dramatic flair.

Featuring dozens of shows over a span of six days, this year’s February fashion week had events on a variety of platforms. Its primary location was Spring Studios at 50 Varick Street in Manhattan, where attendance is through invite only. There were also some offsite locations that were invite only or by appointment for those a part of the exclusively elite New York fashion world. However, some of this season’s shows were also live streamed, accessed via NYFW: The Experience, shown through a lookbook or strictly shown digitally, all on nyfw.com. This made lots of shows more COVID-19 friendly and easily accessed by the general public.

At in-person shows, the same COVID-19 protocols that were instilled during September 2021’s NYFW were reinforced this month as well. Guests were required to be fully vaccinated and wear a mask indoors; audiences were not back to full capacity as well. Many esteemed designers including names like Marc Jacobs still were not seen in attendance; however, the appearance of many breakout designers and innovative styles were.

PETER DO was one of this season’s newest faces, launching his second-ever collection that featured many neutral pieces and handbags. Established in 2018, the label has made noise for itself after celebrities like Beyoncé, Celine Dion and Zendaya were spotted wearing DO’s pieces.

Another emerging designer, Conley Averett, introduced her knitwear brand, Judy Turner, this fashion week. Her Fall 2022 collection showcased many intricately knit tops, pants, outerwear and even many accessories.

Interior made their fashion debut, taking the runway by storm for their first ever fashion week on Feb. 15 with many elegant, yet simply done women’s pieces. Interior was founded recently in 2020 and is based out of NYC.

As for trends, tweed, hot pink, off-the-shoulder dresses, chocolatey brown, corsets and bustiers, are just some of the Fall 2022 previews that were given. Overall, with a plethora of diverse collections shown and audiences filled with celebrities sporting their own unique looks, February’s NYFW was again one for the books.
