You have probably been hearing all about it. The five-letter-word guessing game that leaves students on the edge of their seats. Wordle is a game that only allows you to play once a day. The word to be guessed is the same word for everyone that day. This year, more than ever, students have started to play this game daily.

“I look forward to playing Wordle every day right away in the morning when I wake up,” said LHS senior Ashlyn Cypher. “I first heard about it like a month ago and had to hop on the trend. It is pretty hard though because there are so many options for words.”

When playing the game of Wordle, it is important that you start with a word that includes as many vowels as possible. Words such as audio, soar, sound and crane are very good words to start with. However, every Wordle player has a different strategy.

“I start off with the word ‘bread’ because it has two vowels and usually gets me at least one letter,” said WHS senior Hannah Lewis.

Another important strategy for playing Wordle is to make sure you are guessing words that will be beneficial for you. When you guess a word and one of the letters comes back gray, you don’t want the next word you guess to have that letter in it. This is important so that you don’t waste any possibilities for finding out the word.

“I am really bad at Wordle because I don’t know how to strategize. I use the same letters twice twice even if they are not in the word,” said LHS senior Avery Roth. “I am not very good at Wordle yet, but I am going to try to get better with time.”

Wordle can be a frustrating game in many ways. The word is the same for everyone, that day, so trying to steer clear of the Wordle gossip and accidentally hearing the word of the day can be hard. If you already know the word, there is really no fun in the daily challenge anymore.

“My friend at school has told me the word for Wordle the other day,  so then I was not able to play that day which made me very aggravated,” said WHS senior Maren Rock.

Although Wordle is not an in-class activity, necessary for students to complete, it is still an addiction for a majority of the students here at LHS. As most trends come and go, the life span of the popularity of Wordle will probably only last the next couple of months as the end of the school year draws near.
