Treats to sweeten up Valentine’s Day

These are the desserts I made, the cookies are on top and the strawberries and cake are on the bottom.

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and what better way to spend it than with some delicious treats to snack on while binge-watching romantic movies? These desserts are enjoyable to make with a friend or a significant other. (I used simple, boxed recipes for the cookies and the cake, but you could also use the recipes I linked. Those have more ingredients and steps, rather than something pre-made or already ready to bake.)

Heart-shaped cake: These are super fun to make and are easily customizable because you can put your own spin on the decorations. You can make the cakes from scratch, with the recipe I linked below or you can buy a boxed cake mix instead. I got my cake mix from a grocery store, along with chocolate frosting and a red, glittery icing pen. Once you mix all of the ingredients, bake the cake with the directions given to you on the box. Let the cake cool for about 10 minutes. I did not do this, and the cake ended up falling apart, which made it quite difficult to frost. Once you are satisfied with your frosting job, it is time to decorate. I took the icing pen and wrote: “Happy V-Day” with a border of little dots around the outside of the cake.

Chocolate-dipped desserts: There are a variety of options to choose from when making these. It can be hard to decide between which chocolate to use, how to decorate them, what fruit to use, etc. I decided to use strawberries and dark melting chocolate, which is my personal favorite combination. These are super easy to make; just wash the fruit if needed, melt the chocolate either in the microwave or over the stove and then all you have to do is dip the fruit in. Plate the fruit and make it look pretty and you are all done, enjoy.  Recipe- https://tastesbetterfromscratch.com/gourmet-chocolate-covered-strawberries/

Cookies: The cookies were the easiest to make because there are very few instructions and ingredients. You can use whatever kind of cookie you prefer and either buy pre-made dough or make them from scratch. I used a pre-made sugar cookie dough, along with the red icing pen that I used for the cake. I cut the cookies into slices and laid them out on the pan. Once they were out of the oven, I got my icing ready and started decorating in all different ways. My artistic skills really showed here, as you can see. If you wanted to take it a step further, you could change the shape of the cookies, the way you decorate and what cookie to use. Personalize them to your liking and go for it. Recipe- https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/9870/easy-sugar-cookies/
