Found in room A116 is the beloved LHS Algebra 2 and Geometry teacher, Emily Kegley.

Kegley taught at EMS for five years prior to moving to LHS and has been here now for four years. She grew up in Cokato, Minnesota and then went to college at SDSU where she doubled majored in Math and Psychology, she also later received her master’s from Black Hills State University.

In addition to being a teacher, Kegley has the full-time job of being a mom to her 6-year-old daughter, Annie. She also has a part-time job scheduling an ambassador group from Minneapolis. Currently, Kegley teaches three sections of Algebra 2 and two sections of Geometry, along with a math help study hall. Other than loving math, what Kegley truly enjoys about teaching is the students she gets to know and grow with.

“I love to laugh, so anytime I can laugh throughout the day is my favorite. I really enjoy talking to students and learning about them and from them. They make me laugh, and that is what keeps me coming to work,” said Kegley.

On a regular school day, Kegley wakes up early enough so she can get her daughter up for school at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School. She drops her off before school for breakfast and then heads over to LHS to prepare for the day of teaching and classes. She spends a large amount of her free time with her daughter as that is how she loves to spend her time any chance she can get.

“My favorite thing to do outside of school is to be with Annie, my 6-year-old daughter. We love to go to the park, read, play outside and do crafts,” said Kegley.

Other than spending time with her daughter outside of school, Kegley enjoys being involved in her local church as well. Kegley also loves to read, she recently started to bake bread, and she loves to walk.

If anyone is ever in need of someone to brighten their day, a stop at Mrs. Kegley’s classroom can do the job.
