Meeting my college roommate online

Jaime and I together (kind of) ready to take on college life.

Although many high school seniors are beyond ready to leave the prison they’ve attended for four years, I don’t know if I am able to say the same.

The thought of going to college in less than four months doesn’t seem real to me. ‘Where did all the time go?’ is a question that runs through my mind constantly. But one thing that does give me comfort for the near future is moving in with my roommate in the fall.

The process of finding a college roommate is a lot different than it used to be. In recent years, it has become very popular to follow different Instagram accounts or join Facebook groups, both of which incoming freshmen to the university post a little about themselves in hopes of finding their roommate or even meeting some new friends. This is what I did, and it definitely worked out in my favor.

When I had finally decided that I wanted to attend SDSU in the fall, one of the first things that I did was join their own Facebook group, and a few days later, make my own post to introduce myself. That same night, some random girl direct messaged me on Instagram, saying that even though she doesn’t have Facebook, her friend sent her my post, noticing that we had a lot of similar interests. That simple message started the beginning of our friendship.

Ever since that message way back in December, I am pretty confident in saying that Jaime and I have talked every day since then. We send videos through Snapchat all the time, constantly talking about something random that happened to us that day, school, our dance classes and of course, our upcoming college experience.

I am still nervous about going to college, but the nerves have definitely subsided drastically knowing that I have found a roommate I am excited to live with. I am also glad this whole experience worked out because for the longest time I knew that I wanted my roommate to be someone I had never met before. I was ready for a fresh start and wanted to take this opportunity and hopefully meet a new friend out of it. Even though we have yet to meet in person, I have already made a great friend and I know that Jaime and I are gonna live it up together at SDSU. GO JACKRABBITS!
