What’s left
February 16, 2023
The 2022-23 school year is in its last stretch as many winter activities are nearing their end and students are starting to think about their spring activities. Many of LHS’ annual events are also around the corner bringing us one step closer to the end of the school year. For those curious about which activities are left this school year here is a summary of what is left:
State Wrestling:
The LHS wrestling team is starting to prepare for their final meet in their region before the State Tournament. Their State Tournament will be held on Feb. 23 in Rapid City.
Prom:
LHS senior prom will take place on April 22, 2023.
Boys State basketball:
Boys class AA State Basketball is being held in Rapid City this year and will take place on March 16-18. LHS is projected as second in the state and with the boys playing as well as they have, fans can expect them to go far and perform better than the previous year. LHS finished as the consolation bracket champions in the 2022 State Tournament and the boys are ready to improve upon their performance from last year.
Boys State Tennis:
After a State Championship title, LHS has many returning members from their varsity squad from last year. The boys tennis team has won the past eight State Championships and is looking to add one more to that win streak. The winningest program in the state will compete throughout this spring season and their state tournament will be held from May 18-19th in Sioux Falls at McKennan Park and Kuehn Park.
State Track and Field:
LHS’ enormous Track and Field program has an entire season ahead of them to regain their title as the State Champions after both girls and boys came up short of the title for the first time in years. The culture around this sport at LHS is unlike any other school and both teams will perform this spring season leading up to the state track meet on May 25-27 at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls.
Softball and Baseball:
LHS softball and baseball both won their State Tournaments in their 2021-22 seasons. This will be the first season where softball is officially sanctioned as per SDHSAA’s vote. Therefore softball is now a spring sport and the LHS girls are ready to get back into the action after a long wait as they are riding off of a State Championship season. LHS’ baseball team is in the same boat after an underdog State Championship victory from the 2022 season. The State Tournament for softball will be held June 1-3.
LHS Girls Golf:
Girls golf will compete again this spring after losing just one member from their varsity squad. Their State Tournament will be on June 5-6 at Hillsview Golf Course in Pierre.
Graduation and Senior Party:
We will be saying goodbye to the class of 2023 this May which will be celebrated throughout the month starting with the senior class party on May 15. The class of 2023’s graduation ceremony will be held on May 21, 2023. This class’ impact has been huge on the school and the celebration of their time at LHS will finalize the school year.
