As spring comes around the corner it is not just college students that get impatient for summer. Families and friends start to leave for vacations as the warm weather draws them in. Here are the top five spring vacation spots for families and friends ready to escape the corn fields of South Dakota.

  1. Florida – There are many places in Florida that people are interested in visiting. For college kids, the more appealing places are Fort Lauderdale, Miami and the Florida Keys. Family trips consist more of Disney World, Universal and SeaWorld. Not only are these places warm but people are able to get direct flights to Florida from Sioux Falls, making the trip seem longer than it would if there was a connecting flight.
  2. Arizona – The appeal of Arizona for spring vacation stems from its warm weather, canyons and natural beauty. The Grand Canyon is in Arizona and is a huge tourist attraction. Although the state is beautiful it is difficult to see these sights without a car. A key factor in Arizona as a vacation destination is that it is close enough to drive, which is what a lot of families and students do. It is a 22 hour drive, so not quite a full day but close.
  3. Cabo – Los Cabos for vacation almost explains itself. Getting out of the country is a completely different experience than staying in the United States. Although this might not be for everyone due to the distance, the new activities that people get to try are worth the price of the flight. This vacation spot is more popular with college students because there will always be something to do whether they are a day or night person. For example, The Arch of Cabo San Lucas is a great tourist destination and the beaches at night are a huge attraction for the kids who love the nightlife.
  4. Hawai’i – Hawai’i is a good place for the inbetweeners who want to stay in the United States but also want to travel a decent distance from home. There are a ton of appeals here, one of them being volcanoes, which they have a national park for. The views are breathtaking throughout these islands. From Waikiki Beach with its white sand and turquoise waters to Pearl Harbor and the historical story that comes with it. Hawaii is a great option for both family and friends on spring vacation.
