On a typical Friday night, the average high school or college student spends time with their friends, but Beckett Seefeldt, Pierce Temme, Aubree Pickner and Hunter Hagedorn spend their night performing alternative music to large audiences at local events. They go by the name of “Chara”.
Just two years ago, when Seefeldt was 14, he discovered the guitar. He stayed up many long nights, had several hours of bass guitar lessons and researched the guitar constantly. Seefeldt slowly started to fall in love with music. He attended many local events and concerts daydreaming of playing in a band. On Aug. 23, 2021, he arrived at a Green Day concert. Little did he know, watching one band would drive him to start his own.
Impulsively, Seefeldt and his girlfriend, Pickner, made the decision to start a band from scratch. Him and his girlfriend started off as the only members of the band. In the beginning, with a bass, a guitar and vocals, they realized they needed another asset. Their next step in the band was hiring a drummer.
Hagedorn notified Seefeldt and Pickner that he was interested in filling in the drummer’s spot. In fact, Seefeldt and Pickner tried to start a band with Hagedorn a year prior. With low standards, they let him try out. Seefeldt sent him a few demos practiced with the previous drummer. He studied how Hagedorn matched with the band in hopes of finding the perfect fit. Seefeldt said, “He hadn’t played for a while so I didn’t have super high expectations, but he blew them out of the water.”
Needing another person to play guitar, Seefeldt searched the internet. Temme was a performer Seefeldt and Pickner recently tried to conjoin with a few months back. “After I found out he liked Motley Crue, I ghosted him. Then I lightened up to him and he joined our band!” Seefeldt said.
Seefeldt had a hard time naming and designing the band. He knew he wanted it to be space-related. Chara is the name of a star almost identical to the Sun. With the band’s approval, they officially called themselves Chara.
