Celebrating 20 years: ‘Elf’

One of the most loved Christmas movies, “Elf” made it’s return to theaters across America on Nov. 17 to celebrate its 20 year anniversary.

With the 2023 Christmas season approaching people across the country are decorating, putting up Christmas lights, buying gifts and most of all, watching Christmas movies. What better way to start off the Christmas season than the classic Christmas movie “Elf” coming back to theaters?

“Elf” is the heartwarming story about a man named Buddy who grew up in The North Pole with Santa and all of the elves. While Buddy gets bigger and older, the elves do not change at all. Buddy eventually realizes he does not belong in The North Pole and adventures through a candy cane forest and sea of gumdrops in hopes of ending up in New York City to find his father. Throughout the movie Buddy completes obstacles of being an outsider in a big city, encountering a first love and getting his father and the rest of New York City into the Christmas spirit.

“Elf” premiered in most theaters throughout the country on Friday Nov. 17 just in time for the Christmas season. Having some laughs and smiles at this time of the year is a great experience. Now that “Elf” has hit theaters, I suggest getting a group of friends, put on Christmas pajamas and head over to the movie theaters in Sioux Falls!

With “Elf” being one of the most popular Christmas movies of all time, the 20 year anniversary is not just going to be celebrated in the movie theaters, there are a lot of other events mostly in New York City revolving around “Elf” this holiday season. One of the most heartwarming  celebrations is the Empire State Building being lit up green and yellow- Buddy’s favorite colors and premiering the movie on Dec. 3, 10 and 17. From Nov. 7 through Jan. 1 in the Fifth Avenue lobby windows there are visuals for visitors to encapture moments from the film.

This is definitely one of the best Christmas seasons yet with this film getting the same amount of attention it once had 20 years ago.
