A popular activity to do around the holidays in Sioux Falls is to drive around and look at Christmas lights. Various Sioux Falls neighborhoods work together to create a street-wide display of lights. Certain streets even connect their lights to a local radio station, which pairs the beat of the lights to a Christmas song. These displays are not all just for entertainment, a few of the set-ups take donations from the public to give back to their community around the holidays.
Every house on the cul-de-sac decorates their house and/or trees for Christmas, but this specific house tops the rest. This house’s entire front and backyard is covered in lights, inflatables and a large amount of other decorations. Christmas on the Court takes donations to give back to the less-fortunate kids of the community.
Lights on Lotta has the best neighborhood-wide display in Sioux Falls. Lights on Lotta has been a tradition for about 17 years. This one is different from most other displays because lots of the decorations are handmade. Over 20,000 lights are used to create this display. The Lights on Lotta display takes donations to contribute to Big Paws Canine Foundation, which provides service and companion dogs to former First Responders and Disabled Veterans.
The Brande Christmas Lights display was very neat and organized. However, this set-up appeared to be the least homemade display. This is the only house in the cul-de-sac that is decorated.
While most of the displays are set-up in the front of the houses, the Western Wonderland has the majority of its display in the backyard. This can best be seen driving South on Western Ave. Past the intersection of 69th and Western.
