Quite frankly: “Chromakopia” is not centered around artist Frank Ocean. Ocean last contributed to the music industry in 2021. Since then, he has yet to announce any new work or tease new songs. On Oct. 17, 2024, Tyler the Creator announced his new album, “Chromakopia.” Tyler released the opening track “St. Chroma,” which officially announced his new album. Tyler and Ocean have collaborated before, which leads to the suspicion that Ocean will be back in the music industry. The floating anticipation around this theory will doubtlessly lead to disappointment; however, there are a number of unsettling patterns correlating to this green album.
The idea of Ocean’s involvement is rooted in the unknown vocals in “St. Chroma.” Many different artists could be behind the mystery, including: Daniel Caesar and Steve Lacy. However, Caesar announced that he worked on the album shortly after the song was released, thereby declaring himself the vocalist. However, the yearning for Ocean and new music does not end there.
The video in relation to “St. Chroma” includes Tyler wearing a mask with a line of masked men following him in a marching sequence. Fanatics were quick to try and identify the other men and spread their theories on social media. Unsurprisingly, one masked figure looks very familiar. Could the unidentified man be Ocean? Will those masked individuals be revealed? Fingers crossed.
“Chromakopia” is set to release on Ocean’s birthday, Oct. 28, 2024. Coincidence? More than likely. In the past, Tyler has released on both Fridays and Mondays. Since October 28th is a Monday, assuming Ocean will be involved due to his birthday is far-fetched.
More parallels began to become apparent after Tyler released another song from the album. In the “NOID” music video, Tyler can be seen driving a white Ferrari. Ocean’s album “Blonde” contains a song titled “White Ferrari” which only leads to additional desire. However, Tyler is very notorious for his car collection which includes anything from classics to sports cars. Furthermore, the song has no other correlations to Ocean.
Finally, the album’s color scheme consists of green and black. Ocean once had green hair, so it is possible the color was on purpose. The idea that the green color was for Ocean is rather questionable, but one can dream.
The likelihood of Ocean being a part of Tyler’s latest work is improbable. It is unreasonable to think that an artist like Tyler would shape an entire album around another man’s return to music. And, if he did shape an album around Ocean, it was presumably a marketing tactic. Facts aside, the Ocean’s involvement is still something to hope for.
