It is almost a guarantee that you have heard of the new “Minecraft” movie. Whether you like it or not, the movie has reached high levels of popularity. It has a strange plot with unfamiliar aspects that intrigue viewers across the world. The second I heard all the hype surrounding the movie, I was almost certain that I would watch it. The experience was interesting, to say the least. The occasional popcorn being thrown around the theater, or the standing ovations when lines like “Chicken Jockey” and “I am Steve” were said, all added to the experience of watching the movie. This review will cover not only a summary of the plot, but a more in depth analysis of “A Minecraft Movie.”
“A Minecraft Movie,” released April 4, 2025, centers around a boy named Henry, played by Sebastian Hansen. Henry and his older sister Natalie, played by Emma Myers, had just moved into a new house thanks to their realtor, Dawn, played by Danielle Brooks. Trying to get familiar with his new neighborhood, Sebastian stumbles upon a man named Garret Garrison, played by Jason Momoa. While searching through Garret’s second hand store, Sebastian finds a mysterious orb which he accidentally uses to teleport himself, Natalie, Dawn and Garrett into an unknown world. This world represents the “Minecraft world.” There, they meet Steve, played by Jack Black. While there, the orb gets lost which they soon find out was their only way to open the portal back home. The movie takes the viewer through the characters’ adventures, guided mainly by Steve, to navigate through different challenges to get the orb back from various villains and creatures. Throughout the movie, the characters are challenged to fight fictional creatures like “piglins” and to guide their way through “The Nether” to try to find the orb so they can return back home.
In short words, the movie may be the best movie I have ever seen. Not only did the realistic graphics give me a new outlook on a childhood game, but the humor scattered throughout the movie made it an unforgettable experience. Moreover, it’s almost a guarantee that you will not forget the enthusiastic cheering and screaming that filled the air in the theater. The plot of the movie was consistent and held one entertaining element surrounding the dilemma with the magical orb and the journey in finding it. The movie was simple enough to understand, but the wild graphics, occasional jokes and plot twists made it an incredibly entertaining watch. Despite this, the biggest issue with the movie is the acting. Some of the actors did a poor job of fully playing their roles and showing realistic emotions. Although, it is important to point out that it seemed the occasional poor acting almost added to the overall comical theme of the movie. Overall, the creativity shown by the movie made for a very enjoyable watch.
“A Minecraft Movie,” starring well-known actors like Jack Black, Sebastian Hansen and Emma Myers leads viewers through an eventful quest to retrieve a missing orb. Although the movie did contain small issues that could potentially ruffle a few feathers, the humorous atmosphere achieved its goal of creating an enjoyable experience. Not only did the simple plot create a very understandable movie, but it also worked with occasional twists and turns to create just the right blend of complexity and entertainment. The movie is most definitely something I recommend you and your family go see.
