“Before I forget” by The Kid LAROI was released on Jan. 9. 2026. The album was recorded very quickly, as it was rumored that there was a prior album on the way that got scrapped. With a quick album release, how does this album stand compared to his prior one?
One track that really stood out to me was the opening track, “Me + You.” This track opens up the album, reflecting on his most recent relationship ending with pop star Tate McRae. Throughout this album, it is clear that the theme is about losing a lover and regretting it. This opening track guides the listener into that theme perfectly, as the opening track reflects on how close the two were at one point, which makes losing the relationship very difficult.
Moving down the track list, “5:21AM” is a track that certainly captivated me. The track reflects on how convoluted thoughts can get late at night, especially after the loss of someone or a relationship ending. This track also emphasizes how hard it is to escape the thoughts and the feelings of missing someone; it feels unescapable and it makes one feel trapped.
On the topic of heartbreak, one track that indulges in guilt and regret is “Maybe I’m Wrong.” This track is very significant and stands out above others because LAROI takes a shift in the tone of the album and takes responsibility for what happened. He blames himself and his own actions; he understands what he has done and feels significant regret. I really enjoyed this track because it shows LAROI being mature and taking responsibility for his own actions, showing his growth and how he is moving towards learning to better himself as a person and a future partner.
Finally, one of the last tracks that really surprised me was “A Cold Play.” The beat feels more calming, and it talks about how difficult love can be, and that feeling when love is slowly fading in a relationship, and the individuals involved can begin to emotionally distance themselves from each other.
Ultimately, “Before I Forget” is a very emotion heavy album. It resembles LAROI’s ability to be vulnerable with his audience and growth when it comes to future relationships. While this project isn’t the greatest, it still has some beautiful tracks, and I truly do believe it’s quite the album. Overall, I would rate it a 7/10.
