Sophomore Tavia Bowman partook in track at LHS her freshman year and plans to continue into the 2024-2025 school year.
Bowman is currently in her second season of track with LHS and has been participating in the sport for three years. Track has been a part of high school sports for a long time and has become very popular among students. They practice every day and have meets about once or twice a week. Many of the participating students also take part in other sports and activities along with track.
“I do gymnastics and dance as well. I think it’s pretty easy to balance other things along with track since we get done with practices pretty early,” said Bowman.
Many people are involved in LHS track and field, and the sport helps bring together students from different classes to meet and develop relationships. Having more bonds and connections can make the experience more enjoyable.
“My favorite part about track is bus rides to meets,” said Bowman. “I have thought about quitting before but I still enjoy track because of my friends.”
While not everyone plans to pursue track past high school, it is important to work hard and to show up to practices. While they are every day, they are short and necessary to see improvement.
“The easiest part of track for me is the practices,” said Bowman. “I’ve set a goal for myself to try and get better.”
Similar to any sport, to be good at track takes hard work and dedication. It takes time and repetition in order to get better and improve.
“The hardest part of track is trying to get better and faster,” said Bowman. “You aren’t going to be good right away, you have to work hard to get where you wanna be.”
