Fans left the game early, the game ended and the season was over. This was the case for the fans and players of the MHS boys soccer team. The LHS boys soccer team dominated their first round at State with a win against the Kernels 10-0.
The #1-ranked seed for the boys’ bracket is right here in Sioux Falls. The LHS boys’ soccer team is back-to-back State champions and looking for a three-peat. They kicked off their run for their third straight State title by playing the #13 seed Mitchell.
LHS had a record of 11-1-1, while MHS’s record was 2-9-3. After an extraordinary first half by LHS, accumulating six goals, they continued to control the game by adding four more goals in the second half, ending the game early with a final score of 10 total goals. Only shooting 10 shots throughout the game, the team had a total accuracy of 100 percent, making all 10 of their shots, and also gathering 10 assists. It was a supreme performance all around for the Patriots.
A large part of the team’s success is due to the elite performers of the game: Brady Stamp, who had three goals, and Kolton Vulpe, who recorded two assists. Stamp is a consistent performer for LHS. During this senior season, so far, he has scored 20 goals, taking only 20 shots; he has made every shot he has taken. These 20 goals are one-third of the total 60 goals for LHS this year, which is an astronomical statistic for him. That is why there is no surprise that after becoming a two-time State champ, he won last year’s South Dakota National Gatorade Player of the Year for boys soccer. There is a high chance that if he and the team continue performing, he could also be a repeat Gatorade Player of the Year.
The team will continue in the bracket, and for the second round, they are going to play the #8 OGHS. LHS has a predicted win percentage chance of 71.4 percent versus OGHS, whose percentage is a low 28.6 percent. The match will take place Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025, at 2 p.m. at LHS’s home field.
If the team continues to have success, in total, they would have four games at State to either win or lose in the championship. The only loss the team has suffered so far this season is against JHS, which is the #2 seed. To have a rematch against JHS, LHS and JHS would both have to keep winning until they would ultimately meet in the final. Each game LHS hopes to continue to play is one step closer to the three years of consecutive success stories.
