For centuries, music has been more to the human race than just sound. Music can represent feelings, act as a therapist or show the need for change in times of crisis. Here is how music affects some students at LHS.
“I don’t miss no ex, I don’t miss no text, I choose not to respond” – Good Days by Sza. LHS junior Annie Vasgaard says that these lyrics resonate with her because they remind her to leave her mistakes behind.
“Everything you lose is a step you take” – You’re On Your Own Kid by Taylor Swift. LHS sophomore Saylor McCoy states that this lyric puts life into perspective for her, reminding her that nothing is forever. She also said that it makes her think of how to live with that fact.
“Real Gs move in silence like lasagna” –6 Foot 7 Foot by Lil Wayne. LHS senior Attley Oberg says that this lyric reminds him to be humble at all times. He also says that it prompts him to keep his wins to himself, even when he feels like bragging.
“Ask me why my heart’s inside my throat”- This Side of Paradise by Coyote Theory. LHS freshman Enrique Weatherford says that this lyric reminds him to stay calm and relaxed throughout the day. He also shared that music is essential to him.
“I’ve got more rhymes than I’ve got gray hairs, and that’s a lot because I’ve got my share ”- Sure Shot by The Beastie Boys. LHS Teacher Roxanne Harte said that this song lyric is her favorite because of how MCA, one of the members of the Beastie Boys, acknowledges that he was getting older, while also making light of it. Harte also states that this lyric has stood out to her as she has gotten older and started to get gray hair as well.
“I know I was born and I know that I’ll die, the in-between is mine, I am mine”-I Am Mine by Pearl Jam. LHS teacher Steve Blankenship said that this lyric was his favorite because it is a good reminder that life is short. He also stated that this lyric is a good way to prompt himself to live life to the fullest.
