The 2026 Academy Awards, commonly called the Oscars, were held on March 15, 2026, in Hollywood. The iconic awards ceremony honored films released in 2025 in categories such as Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Costume Design and Best Casting, a new category this year. The ceremony, which was available to watch on ABC and Hulu, also featured musical performances from the movies “Sinners” and “KPop Demon Hunters,” both of which were nominated for Best Original Song.
This year, the most nominated films included “Sinners” with 16 nominations—the most in Oscar history—and “One Battle After Another” with 13 nominations. “Marty Supreme,” “Frankenstein” and “Sentimental Value” tied for third place, all with nine nominations to their name.
As for who actually won the categories, the results were varied. “Sinners” took home only four gilded trophies, for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Michael B. Jordan), Best Original Score, Best Cinematography and Best Original Screenplay, making it not only the most nominated film in Oscars history, but also set the Oscars record for number of losses in a single night. “One Battle After Another” was the most decorated of the night, receiving six awards for Best Picture, Best Director (Paul Thomas Anderson), Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Sean Penn), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing and Best Casting.
Along with multiple awards, the Oscars are also known for the red carpet, which highlights many different fashion statements. The red carpet is where everyone gets the first glance at what the people in attendance are wearing for the night. Their outfits are a way for the actors to express themselves at this event. Jessie Buckley took home the award for Best Actress in the movie “Hamnet.” She was wearing a custom red and pink Chanel dress that was seen as a resemblance to what the previous attending actor, Grace Kelly, wore to the Oscars in 1956. It is a common theme for people attending the Oscars to reference what people have already worn.
The Oscars are a very well-thought-out event that takes months to plan, yet it is over in a few hours. These actors and producers put all their time and effort into their movie, and sometimes they won’t get recognized, but with the Oscars, they can receive an award for the tremendous work that they have put in. For many, the Oscars have ended, but for filmmakers, the race has just begun.
