Is Sioux Falls residents’ “One Dream, One Love” finally coming true? Rooted in Louisiana, the famous “tender only” restaurant, Raising Cane’s, could finally be making its way to Sioux Falls.
Despite its 950+ locations, South Dakota has remained one of the 11 U.S. states/territories without a Raising Cane’s. Local Cane’s fans, or “Caniacs,” have been vocal in their desire for the restaurant. Beginning in December 2024, an online petition was created to take the next steps to invite the first Raising Cane’s to South Dakota. The petition received over 300 signatures.
“As the most populous city in the state of South Dakota, introducing Raising Cane’s to the community could be a beneficial venture for both the business and the locals,” said the lead petition starter.
Recently, news has spread that the chain has requested a construction bid for a site on 41st Street. This strip is known as one of Sioux Falls’ hottest commercial areas. If local Caniacs are granted their wish, the former David’s Bridal location could soon proudly display the Raising Cane’s name. Although a Cane’s representative could not verify whether its establishment was guaranteed, they did mention their pursuit and request for the location.
If the future construction is confirmed, what would this mean for Sioux Falls? Not only would people avoid traveling over an hour to the nearest location, but having a nearby Cane’s would help the local community as well. Job opportunities, increased commercial traffic and overall communal excitement are all benefits that follow when a new business is established. But part of Cane’s mission statement is to support the communities they are rooted in. The company supports 30,000 local organizations nationally, and their support towards the organizations is funded by the local restaurants. They offer community fundraisers, where 15% of net sales are donated towards a given cause. These fundraisers can also be requested by the city’s residents as they feel necessary. And relevant to Sioux Falls’ needs, Cane’s also hosts events where their famous chicken tenders are given to the homeless, thus benefiting all slices of the local population.
Sioux Falls’ residents have made clear their stance: a Raising Cane’s is what is next for the growing city. If the restaurant is brought up in conversation, the chances of hearing “We need a Cane’s,” is a likely response you will hear. It is only a matter of time to see if local Caniacs’ demands are met; the previous David’s Bridal on 41st Street is currently up for grabs, and the collective “One Love” for Raising Cane’s is what residents are hungry for.
