NBA 2K18: Slam Dunk

NBA 2k has been around for many years, but not like this. This years entry into the iconic basketball simulation game sets to provide entertainment for hours. Updated game modes provide a more life-like movement system and even dance moves are going to make this year’s 2k the best yet.

Gamemodes like MyCareer, MyTeam, MyGM and MyLeague make 2k what it is. But fan favorite, MyCareer makes its return like never before. This year’s MyCareer features an open world for the player to explore. Players can finish up an NBA game and step out into the street to get a haircut at the barber. Do not feel like getting cornrows at Doc’s? Take on online players on the blacktop next door. Take-Two Interactive aimed to make this year the most immersive experience yet for players. The other game modes have also been improved, with added features like the ability to add created players into the league and some cutscenes/story for MyGM.

Another thing to be praised is the addition of a more fluid movement system. In previous installments, there was a distinct animation system. Players would get “stuck” in animations and it made the game a lot less enjoyable. This year features dribble moves that do not feel robotic and block and steal attempts that look more natural. Although sometimes forgotten, this will make a big difference in gameplay this year.

Finally, 2k seems to have added a little bit of fun into the game this time around. There is a lot more celebrating and dancing. In fact, you will see your own MyPlayer dance just after your first game on the blacktop, no matter how cringey it may be. However, this addition will no doubt make the game more light hearted and fun.

Without a doubt, this year’s 2k will have a lifespan longer than the last one.
