New flicks on Netflix

Ellie Lamberty, Meet the Varsity

Netflix rebooted their system just in time for summer binge-watching to begin. Plenty of series labeled as “must watch” were updated with their second or third season, while other new movies and shows were put on the chopping block.

Some shows were instant hits and left viewers staying up until ridiculous hours of the night, and others were more than a flop. As a proud binge-watcher, I have been able to watch a couple of the new additions, but I can’t say I’ve watched them all. Here are some personal opinions in addition to other LHS student’s feelings about the shows and movies:

  • “13 Reasons Why” Season 2: I was really looking forward to the second season of “13 Reasons,” and I was more than happy with the results. Although the first couple episodes do start a little slow, the season really picks up. The last episode left me shocked and quite confused. The show also is interesting to me in the aspect that it has seemed to address most controversial topics in our world today. If I detailed all these topics, I would ruin season two, “so you’ll just have to keep listening.”
    • LHS Statesman Twitter poll: 58 percent said no, it is not worth watching.
  • “The Kissing Booth”: Please do not watch this. I cant express the disappointment I felt after spending around an hour of my life watching this film. The entire movie is cringe worthy, and the actors are just as talented as those in a Lifetime movie. Although, I did get a good laugh out of how awful the movie was, so I got something out of it.
    • LHS Statesman Twitter poll: 51 percent said no, it is not worth watching. (Thank god)
  • “Riverdale” Season 2: I have not yet finished season two, but I am sure I will by the end of the night. This series did not disappoint. The eeriness the show always holds has remained along with all the odd lighting shots. Season two, as I’m sure you would assume, picks up in the middle of the tense final season one episode, and only adds more drama to the season. I’d definitely recommend.
    • LHS Statesman Twitter poll: 58 percent said no, it is not worth watching.

While I can not agree with most of the Twitter poll results, I am more than happy the LHS students still have some integrity for condemning “The Kissing Booth.” Watch the film and shows for yourself, and you can form your own opinion.

P.S. Don’t try to convince me “The Kissing Booth” is a quality or cute movie. It is not.
