In 1776, the American colonies severed their political ties to Great Britain, but it seems as though the U.S. population never fully withdrew from the drama centered around The Royal Family.

An American citizen might not be able to name the members of The Royal Family, but it is likely they would be aware of their most recent scandal. It has circulated throughout the country and headlined numerous tabloids. The entire world was stunned when Meghan Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, disclosed that they would be removing themselves from the Royal Family.

“We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen,” said Meghan Markle in an Instagram post.

A vast majority of the U.K.’s population has commended the couple, claiming that their announcement shows a modern movement for the monarchy. Over the weekend, Queen Elizabeth made a formal statement in regards to her grandson’s notice.

“Today my family had very constructive discussions on the future of my grandson and his family,” Queen Elizabeth wrote in a statement on Monday.

Overall, the Royal Family is experiencing tough times; it is troublesome to everyone involved. As of now, there is no clear answer to how this situation will resolve, but more information is being released daily.

This event has been documented worldwide, but it seems to have particularly touched American hearts. The criticism Markle has received is thought of as a tragedy among the American population because many consider her to be “one of them.” The Royal Family (especially Markle) has immense influence among Americans. In a sense, citizens could claim that the Royal Family continues to reign over the American population. Fashion, politics and social structures are still mimicked here in the U.S.; many would call it an obsession.

Fashion is an incredibly dynamic trend, set specifically by the women within the Royal Family. Back in May of 2018, Prince Harry and Markle had an extravagant wedding, featuring a lovely bride. Markle walked down the aisle in a stunning, simple dress that set the standards for the remainder of weddings that year.

Numerous trends have been set by the Royal Family throughout the 2000s and even dating back to the beginning of their reign. Most recently, the idea of a simplistic life has been extremely prevalent in the U.K., but is also making a worldwide appearance. This entails earning your wealth and spending your riches and time wisely.

“I’ve never wanted to be a lady who lunches. I’ve always wanted to be a woman who works,” said Meghan Markle.

Overall, the infatuation and dedication for this family has a lengthy history. Despite the chaos and travesty, there is one thing that has never changed: the appreciation and support Americans, (and the global population, in general) have provided for the Royal Family. The world can safely say that no matter the trouble, this family will remain as devoted leaders of the U.K., and even better role models for the U.S. population.
