Costco: My first love

Oh Costco, where do I begin?

From the first time you caught my gaze, I knew you were the one for me. Was it your delectable samples? Perhaps. Your high quality apparel, the likes of which flood my closet? Maybe. Your pallets of bulk goldfish and corn dip? I won’t rule it out. Or could it be your food court, with its infinite supply of hot dogs and happiness? Definitely a chance. Regardless of what flame first ignited our love, I know one thing is certain: it is still burning.

You make me better each and every day. Without you, I would not understand the joy of purchasing unnecessary amounts of food. Do I need 400 granola bars in one box? No, but you have helped me to step out of my comfort zone and buy in bulk. Your ability to carry high quality fashion at such low prices has transformed my wardrobe. With two hoodies, a crew neck and a t-shirt, I am now unashamed of supporting the Kirkland Signature brand with my whole heart. Had I never met you, my belly, bank account and sense of style would not be the same.

Now, I know we have had our ups and downs, but our perseverance should be a model for every relationship. I would like to apologize for last October, when I snuck into your Sioux Falls location, got caught by customer service and proceeded to immediately re-enter. While it was very much worth it, it was also wrong. I would also like to extend forgiveness for your removal of the churro from the food court. I will never understand what prompted you to do this, but my love for you continues nevertheless.

I hope that in the years to come, our relationship will continue to flourish. I dream of the day when I can possess my own Executive Membership and receive a glorious 2% cash back on all purchases. Costco, you have transformed my life, eating habits, clothing tendencies, and reputation; many now refer to me as “Costco girl.” Yet, I can say with complete confidence that I would not want it any other way. I love you, Costco.

Warmest regards,

Naomi

Naomi Jespersen, Staff Writer
Naomi Jespersen is a sophomore, first-year staff writer for the Statesman. When she is not compulsively listening to NPR, you can find Jespersen playing volleyball, working out, practicing piano or studying AP chem. Jespersen works two jobs, both as a research assistant and a math instructor, but is otherwise involved in student council, MNHS and SNHS. Surprisingly, Jespersen lives each day guided by one Michael Scott quote: “Fool me once, strike one. Fool me twice, strike three” (not actually, but she hopes to someday).
