What your preferred Valentine’s Day gift reveals about you

Year after year, flowers, specifically roses, have been one of the most popular gifts given on Valentine’s Day, proving to be a truly timeless gesture.

As this upcoming holiday full of love quickly approaches, it is important to recognize the tradition of gift-giving and some of its most popular forms, but what does your preferred gift say about you?

Chocolate: If chocolate of any kind is your favorite gift you are basic in a good way. You live a sophisticated lifestyle and will stick to what you know. You listen to all music genres but secretly enjoy classical the most. In middle school, you were in band, orchestra or choir, but if you like milk chocolate you continued participating in music throughout high school. Though you are a chocolate lover through and through, you are not a fan of the traditional Valentine’s Day candies.

Jewelry: If jewelry is your gift of choice you have very expensive taste. You either like silver or gold, and there is no in-between. For example, if you prefer gold but you are gifted silver, you better keep the receipt because it is going straight back to the store. In a relationship, you will be the one to say “I love you” first, but you make sure to wait long enough into the relationship so you know they will say it back. You love vanilla cake, but only if you are not the one paying for it.

Stuffed Animal: If a stuffed animal is your preferred gift on Valentine’s Day, you are a child at heart. To you, it does not matter if it was one dollar or $50 as long as it was given to you out of love. You love wearing a matching pajama set and furry slippers at night because they make you feel cozy before bed. When going out for ice cream, you will always order two scoops of strawberry ice cream in a waffle cone. You enjoy listening to white noise while studying or doing homework as a way to focus.

Flowers: If a nice bouquet is what you are hoping for on the 14th you enjoy the classics. Summer has been your favorite season since you were a kid because of its warmth. You were probably Pinterest’s number one user in 2023 and watch color analysis videos religiously. You are always trying to keep your room clean, but fail to do so after about a week. You love going to the farmer’s market even if you do not buy anything because it is just for the aesthetic.

Gift Basket: If a gift basket is your preferred gift on Valentine’s Day, you have very high standards. There is a good chance that you saw a lot of TikToks consisting of people receiving gift baskets, and you sent all of them to your boyfriend or girlfriend as inspiration. You are basic and would return to being a preteen if you could. Every February, you tell your friends that Valentine’s Day is your favorite holiday even if that is not true.

Money: If money is your favorite gift, you prefer to keep gift-giving short and sweet. You are extremely type A and appreciate being able to pick out exactly what you want for yourself because you know no one else will get it right. Consumerism is your middle name and you always make sure your gas tank is not running on empty.

Perfume/Cologne: If the gift you are hoping for on Valentine’s Day is a bottle of perfume or cologne you most definitely have an expensive taste. Whether the bottle is expensive or inexpensive, you are a materialistic person. You appreciate the maximalist lifestyle and love incorporating new colors into your wardrobe. Your favorite way to spend a relaxing night is taking a nice shower, eating a sweet treat of your choice and rewatching your favorite movie.

Something Homemade: If you are hoping for a homemade gift, you are an extremely sentimental person and will most likely cherish it forever. You enjoy the little things in life and pay attention to every detail in the lives of your friends and family. In school, you rarely let yourself accumulate missing assignments and finish all of your homework before class the next day. Your favorite ice cream flavor is mint chip and you let everyone know it.

Gift Giving: If you prefer gift giving as opposed to receiving then you should treat yourself this Valentine’s Day and get a nice gift for yourself. You are probably slightly socially awkward and do not know how to act when someone offers you something nice. On payday, you like to spend your money on others rather than yourself. If you are craving a bagel, you often reach for a blueberry one because that is your favorite flavor.
