What is L.I.G.H.T?
L.I.G.H.T (Living In God’s Hope & Truth) is a student‑led movement for those of the Christian faith created in April of 2026 by Kynsey McCue, a sophomore at LHS. The club’s goal is to foster a welcoming, optimistic community, making learning scriptures and “walking in the path of God” something to look forward to. McCue believes that L.I.G.H.T teaches teens to incorporate God’s word into their everyday lives and reminds them that worship does not conform to a single standard and should be chosen by the individual practicing it.
What to expect
L.I.G.H.T gathers in room A123 from 7:15-8 a.m. on Mondays and 7:30-8:05 a.m on Wednesdays. There, worship takes place for the first half of the meeting, followed by group Bible study and concluding with a prayer. Attendees are encouraged to color and put together various arts and crafts while bonding through worship. They are also free to ask questions and talk amongst peers, reflecting on the scripture of the day before the sending prayer. Prayers are always relevant to the scripture and worship of a session; however, one may request in advance to pray for a specific person or cause if they wish to do so.
L.I.G.H.T’S Mission
According to the group’s mission statement, L.I.G.H.T is for anyone who is exploring their religion, looking to grow closer to God or simply wants to be in a community that shares their passion for Christianity. It is a safe space, devoid of pressure and expectations. If anything, kids are expected to learn and shouldn’t have a vast knowledge of the profound meaning found in the Bible. The club’s purpose is not only to empower Christians to grow closer to God, but also to create an inviting environment where non-believers can discover religion and feel included. “We love when old faces come in and can grow even closer to God, but another goal of ours is to acquaint non-believers with Jesus, so they feel welcome and become aware of his unconditional love. The club serves as a space where students can start their day feeling rejuvenated, leaving everything negative with god and forgetting about the noise and chaos of life,” said McCue.
Through this, L.I.G.H.T. aims to equip students with a sense of direction and sufficient strength and clarity to “carry faith” into their daily lives.
What makes L.I.G.H.T unique?
McCue feels that what sets L.I.G.H.T apart from other Christian clubs is the freedom to be themselves while listening to music and casually conversing with friends about subject matters that are not usually discussed outside of church. One can find that even the prayers and lessons during meetings are pertinent to present-day issues that the younger generation currently faces. In addition, on Wednesdays, interactive activities and games are incorporated to help students reflect on the day’s worship and better understand the “message of Christ.” Club sessions are not overly formal and allow the formation of real connections and community while also being centered around faith and personal growth.
