One of the most controversial opinions debating the holiday season: when should the Christmas tree be put up?

Christmas is a time of joy and cheer. However, there’s always been a major amount of controversy on when the festivities should really begin. With that being said, when should the holiday season really start?

The most common debate is whether people should start celebrating before or after Thanksgiving. The day after Thanksgiving is the best time to begin celebrating for many reasons. One is because it’s when Black Friday begins, which means people will be going gift shopping, and that’s when everyone buys Christmas presents. It’s the perfect time to begin the holiday season, as there’s not much time until Christmas, so you won’t get tired of putting that Christmas playlist on shuffle.

Speaking of Christmas music, another pretty controversial topic is when Christmas music should start playing in stores. A lot of people get very irritated when Christmas music is played early, while others play it whenever they want. Personally, I would rather not hear Christmas music until after Thanksgiving. When people play Christmas music too early, I get sick of it so easily. Many people play Christmas music starting even as early as Halloween, which is absolutely insane. If I ever hear Christmas music being played before November hits at the least, I’m shutting it off no matter what.

Last but not least, likely to be the most controversial take on this topic, putting up the Christmas tree. Every family does it differently, some decide to do it the second November hits, while others do it right after Thanksgiving. To be honest, putting up the tree on November 1st isn’t a bad idea at all. It gives you that nice reminder that Christmas is coming. The same can be said about Christmas lights. While it would be nice if they came a little after November, seeing them up when the snow hits the ground at night is a beautiful site, so it’s perfectly okay to put your Christmas lights up early, especially before the weather gets too cold.

Whether people listen to Christmas music in the middle of summer, or your family puts up the Christmas tree in October, we can all agree that Christmas is a wonderful time that spreads cheer to all.
