Predicting 2024 fashion trends

Closets in 2024 may experience large changes as the new trends emerge.

Closets in 2024 may experience large changes as the new trends emerge.

With the new year comes new fashion trends and as we saw this year, anything is fair game when it comes to reemerging styles.

High-end fashion shows are a great way to read into the future because people can draw inspiration from the looks seen and worn around the world. Recent fashion shows in large cities like New York, Paris, Milan and London have showcased many styles that will more than likely be trending in 2024. New trends are introduced and some trends are continually carried out from year to year.

A huge trend that I have seen in fashion shows recently, like Paris Fashion Week and Milan Fashion Week, and believe will be seen largely in the upcoming year is minimalistic and elevated basics. With very little effort and money required, wearing elevated basics such as plain jeans and sweaters will surely make any outfit put together and always make for a chic yet simple look.

Along with minimalistic sweaters come off-the-shoulder sweaters and off-the-shoulder shirts in general. Off-the-shoulder sweaters are appealing to the eye and make for an elegant and classy look for a date night or special occasion.

Yet another trend that may carry on into the year is mini-dresses and mini-skirts. Not only mini-dresses but also tops as dresses, like button-ups and t-shirts were worn by many in large fashion shows and will be seen for many years to come.

In 2024, red is the new black. With an increase in wearing the color red leading up to the holiday season, I think the love for the color will not stop there and will be the “it” color of the year.

The business casual trend will adopt a blend of both sophistication and comfort. With relaxed fits that make you look and feel “like a million bucks,” everyone will be rocking blazers and dress pants.

Full denim outfits are expected to make a strong comeback, with a revamped nostalgia-like vibe. Outfits like oversized denim jackets paired with low-rise jeans will be all the rage.

Speaking of low-rise, high-rise bottoms have dominated the fashion industry for years now, but people are finally reverting back to the old 2000s ways, which is arguably the most controversial fashion trend.

None of these styles for the new year are concrete, so use this guide as one pleases, but do not be afraid to think outside the box and start your own clothing trend.
