With the start of the year comes new year’s resolutions and this year people are moving away from their traditional resolutions and moving towards their “ins and outs” for the year.

As 2024 approached, there was a growing trend of people sharing their 2024 ins and outs lists for the new year. From genuine interest in improving your lifestyle, to pure nonsense, the internet can tell you exactly what will fly and what will not in 2024. Some of the most popular Tiktokers are eager for activities like reading, staying in and wearing pajama pants, while others are ready to leave worrying, QR code menus and Ticketmaster in 2023.

LHS students also made lists of their ins and outs to start the new year off on the right foot. While the majority of students’ “ins” include variations of preserving healthy habits and positive self-change, some students favor personal entertainment or other wild card picks over stereotypical self-help resolutions. Here are a few examples of what the students of LHS anticipate to hold as well as what they believe should be left behind.

    Some “ins” include:

    -Getting good grades

    -Drinking more water

    -Pickleball

    -Yapping
-Foods like hot dogs, yogurt parfaits, whipped cream

    -Wiser monetary decisions

    -Having good friends

    -Being locked in

    -Working out to feel good

    -Having a young President

    While other outs consist of:

    -Toxicity

    -Complaining

    -Eating out

    -People pleasing

    -Year Round Brown

    -Fortnite

    -Being on your phone

    -Anything yellow/neon yellow

-Being messy (room, car, in general)

    -Mullets

Among all the “ins” and “outs,” there were two subjects that remain controversial with supporters on both sides. These subjects include Chamoy Pickle Kits, Taylor Swift and Stanley Cups. While each of these are entirely subjective from person to person, the discourse over each interest will not be put to rest in the new year.

In 2024, what is really “in” is doing what makes you happy, whether a TikTok approves of it or not. Although a new calendar year objectively has nothing to do with habits, the choice can be made by every individual on what is best for them.
