There are still days that can give hope to students.

With no more holidays and long breaks ahead of us, the second semester begins. No more looking forward to Christmas or Thanksgiving break. Now, to finish the rest of the school year, random days off and other events are keeping students somewhat “here” to finish off the year. What are those events to look forward to?

Obviously, summer break is the main “event” that is looked forward to, as it marks a time when there is no freezing weather, anxiety of homework, and most importantly, the end of school. During the stress-free summer break, one can prepare for the next school year, go on vacations, travel, swim or even take summer classes to get ahead for the next school year. While all this seems great, Summer is still far away from arriving; however, there are still days that offer breaks for students that can be looked forward to.

All throughout January, February and slightly into March, there are multiple boys and girls basketball games, oral-interp competitions and Wrestling matches. Feb. 5 is one of the random in-service days that allow students to take a mental break. Following this day, Feb. 19-20 is Presidents’ Day break which offers a four-day weekend, meaning extra days to sleep in.

March is the first month of spring, meaning sports like track and field, softball and tennis begin. Another random “compensatory day” on March 15 is given, providing a three-day weekend. March also houses spring break on the 29 and April 1, marking the last couple of days off before summer break.

After spring break, there are not any days where students get a break, forcing them to grind it out until May 22, the end of school. Ignoring all of the holidays and events like prom or Valentine’s Day, there are still many things to look forward to. Some students will be preparing for college, while others get ready for their final year. Other students will be preparing for high school, and some are kind of just here.
