“A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens has taken many different forms of media throughout the years. From the original novella to a Muppets adaptation, there is no limit to who or what can portray Scrooge, including a 45-minute musical.
“A VHS Christmas Carol” follows Ebenezer Scrooge on Christmas Eve as he goes through the past, present and future of his life. Scrooge learns lessons from his nephew Fred and clerk Bob Cratchit, seeing the worrisome life of the latter’s son, Tiny Tim, who is deathly ill. Scrooge decides to turn his life around, give to the less fortunate and enjoy his life, rather than focusing on money.
The LHS theater took on this musical for their One-Act competition in Brandon, SD this year. The SDHSAA One-Act competition only allows for 45 minutes on stage, which includes setup and take down, and nothing can be left on stage as it poses a risk of disqualification.
