As AP tests creep around the corner, students everywhere are grabbing their notes and Princeton Review prep books, attempting to prepare for what is coming at the beginning...
Nathan Thompson is a junior, first year staff writer and news editor for the Statesman. When he is not running for the cross country team (or from hordes of admirers) he is likely putting off his homework until the last second, thinking way too hard about the last movie he saw or listening to folk music. He’s available for autograph signings during WIN time only.
Lily Gruber is a junior, first-year staff writer and Sports Editor for the Statesman. She is most commonly found on a bike, whether it be indoors on her peloton or outside on a mountain bike shredding the local single track. Gruber is an XCO mountain bike racer; her training is intense. She loves spending her mornings at the gym lifting before school. Gruber also works at Spoke-N-Sport and babysits regularly. In the future, she hopes to become a pediatric physical therapist because she has spent a lot of time in physical therapy herself with various injuries and would love to work with kids.
Ryan Calhoun is a senior and first-year staff writer for the Statesman. In his free time, Calhoun plays soccer with the LHS varsity team in the fall and bowls with the LHS varsity team in the winter. He also considers himself a professional pickleball star by day and a fast food connoisseur by night. When he is not busy with these important obligations, Calhoun can be found happily hanging out with friends or utterly dejected at Shoe Carnival, where he works.
Laura Heckenlaible is a senior, third-year staff writer and Editor-In-Chief for the Statesman. Heckenlaible is in ENHS and also serves as vice president of NHS. When she is not editing stories or volunteering, you will most likely find her running on the bike trails with her best friends who also double as her SFLXC teammates. Besides training and school, Heckenlaible loves going to work where she spends her time making bagels and gossiping with her coworkers. She is always down for cold brew from Starbucks, watching the sunset or a date with her bed and her favorite movie, A Cinderella Story featuring Hillary Duff. If you see her in the halls, do not be afraid to say hi; she is probably the least intimidating person ever.
